Thanks to You, OMP’s Virtual Spaghetti Dinner 2022 is a Success!

Dear Okemos Community,

Thank you for supporting Okemos Music Patrons’ Virtual Spaghetti Dinner 2022 in a myriad of ways: with your donations, your sharing of music program highlights with extended family, neighbors and friends, your encouraging comments, and your enthusiasm for music education in Okemos.

Thanks to you and your generous support, OMP’s first ever online fundraising event was a great success!  More than 260 donors and seven local businesses helped us raise over $22,000 for Okemos music programs.

These funds will help OMP to continue supporting elementary music programs and choir, band and orchestra programs at Kinawa, Chippewa and Okemos High School.  OMP provides funds directly to teachers for instrument purchases and repairs, bringing in outside coaches and clinicians, piano accompanists, purchasing music scores, transportation for field trips and festivals and so much more.

OMP also awards numerous merit and need-based scholarships throughout the year. Starting at the upcoming spring concerts, we are pleased to offer you an easier online way to contribute to the scholarship funds normally collected by hand in drums at all the concerts.

As another happy outcome of the Virtual Spaghetti Dinner 2022 effort, OMP’s website will continue to serve as a place to share highlights of music programs as well as links to various concerts. You can continue to access these on the SPOTLIGHT section of the website. We look forward to sharing music news and links to concerts with you throughout the year.

Thank you again for making this first virtual event a success!

Sincerely,
Okemos Music Patrons Board

SPOTLIGHT
Okemos High School Music:
One of the Best Programs in Michigan

Each week of OMP’s Virtual Spaghetti Dinner 2022, we will share highlights from an Okemos music program.

Band, Orchestra & Choir Ensembles are Top-Notch

As Okemos students enter high school, they put their strong music skills developed from K-8 to work in one or more of the advanced band, orchestra and choir ensembles.  The offerings are varied and diverse, including freshman groups, Marching Band, Concert and Philharmonic Orchestra, Someko Choir, Symphonic Wind Ensemble and more.  Students can also participate in specialized groups like the Okemos Percussion Group, Jazz Band, Suzuki Cello Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra and many others.

Each group is taught by highly skilled and experienced teachers and consistently receive top ratings at MSBOA music festivals, district and regional solo and ensembles and other statewide events. Justin Valla directs the orchestra program; Mark Stice directs the band program; and Claire Bellamy directs the choir. Year after year, several students from all three programs audition and are selected for the prestigious MSBOA All-State Honors Ensembles.

Okemos Music Patrons supports choir, band and orchestra programs at Okemos High School with funds for need-based and merit scholarships, instruments and repairs, bringing in outside clinicians, piano accompanists, purchasing music scores, transportation to festivals and so much more.
